Our aim is to promote responsible dog ownership, which in turn enhances our relationship with our dogs.

Our gundog training programme takes you and your dog through from puppy to complete beginners, to novice, then advanced, and then through to training for working tests and the Shooting field, then an introduction to field trials.

We can also provide obedience / pet training classes most breeds taken or

one to one obedience training is availabe.

News Update 2011:-

Follow our News.

On the 4th & 5th of September 2011 Swaine Julianae of Peniglen (Boss) & Ian was selected to run for the URC Lincs Area at Chatsworth in the Working Test Team Event held at Chatsworth House Estate. (more info please read our blog).

On the 3rd July 2011 Swaine Paiju of Peniglen (Jet) & Ian gained 3rd place from an entry of 30 dogs. Held at the URC North Midlands Gundog Club Novice Working Test at Welbeck, Yorkshire.

On the 23rd April 2011 Swaine Paiju of Peniglen (Jet) & Ian gained 2nd place from an entry of 17 dogs. Held at the Yorkshire Golden Retriever Club Novice Working Test at Timble, North Yorkshire.

On the 17th April 2011 Swaine Julianae of Peniglen (Boss) & Ian was selected to run for Barton & Humber Gundog Club in the Inter Counties Gundog Working Test team event which was held at Lyndon, Rutland. Our team proudly gained 3rd place - 12 clubs competed 36 dogs in total. (more info please read our blog).

On the 27th March 2011 Swaine Paiju of Peniglen (Jet) & Tracey gained a COM at the URC Lincs area Novice test held at Raithby, Spilsby.

Welcome To Peniglen's

Official Website

Peniglen is a small private and non-commercial working labrador kennel which is based in Penistone on the Barnsley/Sheffield borders in South Yorkshire. Penistone itself is a small rural farming village -so we have an abundance of farm land and moor lands to train and exercise all our dogs on.

Throughout the summer months some of our dogs will be competing in working tests up and down the country.

During the shooting season all of our dogs on this website will be picking-up on local shoots, or some will be competing in field trials throughout the country, the dogs that won't be competing will be in full active training and used as demonstration dogs for our training classes which we at Peniglen hold upto four times a week.

Our stud dogs and breeding bitches have or will be health tested for:-

B.V.A Hips and Elbows,

B.V.A Current Clear Eye Certificates 2011/12,

M.R.D Current Clear Eye Certificates 2011/12.

And will be D.N.A tested for the hereditary conditions:-

P.R.A - (Progressive Retinal Atrophy)

CNM ~ HMLR - (Centro Nuclear Myopothy)

R.D / O.S.D - (Retinal Dysplasia) -

(Oculo Skeletal Dysplasia)

NARC - (Narcolepsy)

EIC - (Exercise Induced Collapse)

Our stud dogs & bitches at Peniglen are microchipped for permanent identification.

How to find Peniglen we are situated in Penistone South yorkshire on the A628 just west of the M1 motorway Junction 37.

(Our kennels are constantly monitored by 24hr CCTV equipment).

All our stud dogs have proven themselves to be of sound mind, calm and steady, soft mouthed, and quiet at all times. They possess natural hunting abilities and are fit for purpose, and have proven themselves in working competitions and/or in the shooting field.

All are DNA tested Clear for:-

PRA, CNM, RD / OSD, NARCOLEPSY, EIC.

Current Clear BVA & MRD Eye certificates

Low BVA hip & elbow scores.

Dogslife…..the exciting new research looking at the health of the Labrador Retriever across the UK. In the Decembers 2010 news letter they asked us at Peniglen if we would write a few words on the training program that we use in our Kennels from puppy - up to a fully trained dog walking on the shoot for its first day picking-up.
